A Monument in Manitoba commemorates Jon Sigurdsson's hardship and celebration. Icelanders who immigrated to North America in the nineteenth century struggled to adjust to their new surroundings. However, Jon Sigurdsson exemplified remarkable patriotism and unity for Icelanders. In May 1911, a committee based in Winnipeg revived their passion by erecting a replica in front of the Manitoba Legislative Building to honour his service to the Icelandic Community of America.
